Surprise Engagement/Family Session

After this horrible year, I was so excited when I found out I was going to get to mark something off of my photography bucket list with this session. It was just as amazing as I had hoped! Since the very beginning of my journey into photography, I knew that just once I wanted to photograph a surprise engagement. Even if I decide to stop taking family sessions all together one day and focus completely on newborns, there will always be a spot in my calendar for sessions like this!

One of my sweet friends referred this session to me, so until the day of I had never met Rob or Stephanie. Rob was the one who booked the session, and as far as Stephanie knew, this was just like any other family session. Rob wanted to shoot near a creek, so we went to a beautiful spot just off of the Gordonsville, TN/ Carthage, TN exit in Hickman. Thankfully, the day was beautiful (even if a little chilly) and the location was perfect (thanks again to my amazing friend, Joyce!).

This location was perfect with the exposed rocks and low water level. It made for a lot of beautiful images, with plenty of space to move around for different perspectives.

We started out with normal family photos (like the ones posted below with their adorable son!), then I pulled out their little one for some couple shots while he got into his special shirt so he could help dad pop the question.

Once he was all set, I invited him back into the session and the big moment had finally arrived!!! Watching Stephanie's face as she read his shirt was one of the most exciting things ever! I couldn't wait to capture everything that came next, but I hadn't taken one thing into consideration... how much their little one would want to help! 😂

This was such a sweet proposal, and I was so honored to be a part of their special day. Just in case any of you were wondering... SHE SAID YES!

We finished off their special session with some simple engagement shots and more family photos to help them document the start of their next chapter together.

I love this job. I love meeting amazing new people, and getting to play a part in helping them remember the most special days of their lives. Whether it is newborn photos, family photos, or a proposal, they are all memories that will outlast everything else. I can't imagine being part of anything better.
